T-30 days!
Yep, in less than a month I'm going to be taking off for Europe! The program in Nantes starts a month from today, so I'll be leaving a month from yesterday. I'm so excited...in a terrified kind of way. I've never left the North American continent before, but this is something of which I've always dreamed!
The purpose of this blog is to keep all of you posted (no pun intended...) on my life in Nantes. Ideally, I'd like to plan to update at least weekly, but we'll see how things turn out in reality. I'll plan to write about what I'm up to and what I do, but...well, knowing me there will be tangents and digressions about anything and everything, bien sûr! (and I'll try to keep the franglais to a minimum, I know that drives some of my non-francophone friends and family bonkers. no promises once I get thrown into 24/7 French though!)
à bientôt !

Hi it is Sarah (Blockbuster)! I wish I was preparing to go to France again... Nantes is beautiful! I was there on several occasions... but mostly just passing through on my way from Rennes to where ever.
A couple things I know about it... You are lucky because you have an airport that can pretty much take you anywhere you want to go in Europe for relatively low prices! I'm sure you've been told but Ryanair goes all over and is soooo cheap compared to flying in the US. From Nantes to London I think I paid like $50/us and it was round trip. It is more if you check baggage... but only like 10euros or so. Another thing... there is an absolutely gorgeous garden I discovered on my one overnight trip there... and lastly you'd be surprised by how many well known artists in/from the US tour in France and Nantes seems to be a frequent location for venues.
I didn't go to nearly as many places as I would have liked to but I did have some favorites. Dinard is gorgeous... I never went to St. Malo but most people do and you can see it from Dinard... so make a stop in Dinard too. I'm very partial to Rennes of course and if you plan a trip there let me know! I can give you directions/recommendations! Also, all museums in Paris are free on the, I think it is first Sunday of the month. I don't remember exactly. And make sure you see lots and lots of Bretagne! That alone kept us busy many weekends. Oh, and go to St. Mont Michel but when the weather is nice... You are outside just about the entire time so December is a bad idea!
You must try your best to update regularly if at all possible and if not keep a journal! I always said I would get around to it and never did. It is so exciting and goes so fast that you'll want all the memories.
